As well as, character building life skills like, self-discipline, leadership and the importance of respecting family, friends and teachers Our motto is āYou Learn, You Earnā. Thus, each youth will be able to earn 1 hour of credit for every 2 hours spent in
āLearning Centerā classes. The earned ācreditsā can be redeemed in any one of the other program areas offered by Soul Surchers denoted below:
Soul Surchers five exceptional programs: āLearning Centerā, āHealth & Wellnessā, āProfessional Mentoringā āMusic Studioā and āFine Arts are designed to work seamlessly together to provide a balanced and structured approach to meeting the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of the youth participating in the program. We will offer a 5 year program whereby youth will be required to continually participate in the āLearning Centerā classes/workshops in order to earn the necessary credits to participate in one or more of the following areas denoted below.
The āLearning Centerā program is designed to equip youth with professional ālife skillsā, such as, basic typing, computer hardware, software (i.e. Microsoft Suite) and computer programming (i.e. skill, A++ and Cisco) training. While there are a number of youth development programs available in Fairfax County Va., most of them are not free, nor do they take a comprehensive long-term approach like our programs. Fortunately all of the Soul Surcher programs will be free regardless of family income. Therefore, it is critical that we secure funds for all the essentials necessary to start our initial program, which include contracting with host facilities, the purchase of a van to transport the youth to and from the facility and staff salaries for the program director, administrative assistant and general operating expenses. Many middleclass families spend a substantial amount of their income on youth related activities like, sports, dance and music lesson. Thus by offering our programs for free we will be able to fulfill our mission, which is to innovate and recondition todayās youth, while at the same time mitigating the damaging impact of school budget cuts and providing financial relieve for struggling middleclass families.
The Soul Surchers Health & Wellness/Learning Center program will be managed by two dedicated employees, a program director, administrative assistants. Program partners and volunteers will include: transportation vendor, corporate partners, small business owners, teachers, professional mentors, nutritionist and personal trainer personnel. Our program will be available Monday thru Friday between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and weekends. The motivation for creating and providing our youth programs free of charge, is to help middle class families maximize their family budgets by offsetting the expense associated with afterschool and extracurricular activity youth programs. In addition, local businesses will benefit from our programs because all monies received through grants, sponsorships and in-kind donations will be used to pay the business owners for the services provide to the youth participating in our programs.
